Boyne City, Michigan: Young State Park Short Loop Along Lake Charlevoix

20180514_185941

This route starts in Young State Park in Boyne City, Michigan – a great “just got up north” first day ride, this is only 30-ish miles and incredibly scenic.  Truth be told, this would be a great route to follow twice to get a 100k in.  You’ll start out heading toward East Jordan and my buddy, Chuck, picked a great descent just ten miles into the ride.  We’re hitting the famous “Wall” backwards…  Hold onto your butt, because it’s an 18% drop followed by a more reasonable 1-3% into East Jordan (and the road surface isn’t the best).

From there you’ll head over to the South Arm of Lake Charlevoix, heading north to Ferry Road.  Here, you’ll make a right and take that (which turns into Lake Shore Dr.) all the way back to Front Street and downtown Boyne City.

Now, in-season you can turn left instead of right on Ferry Road and take the ferry across the lake to 66 and go around the entire lake.  You’ll be on your own for that one as I’ve never ridden the route so I don’t know the best roads to take.  If, and when I do that ride, I’ll update this post with the long route.
