This is one of our favorite summertime rides – whenever we get bored with riding our usual loops back home, we pack up the SUV and head over to Goodrich high school. With only 1,700 feet of up in 58 miles, it’s not too climby, but there are a few decent hills in there, too. You’ll want to start out with full water bottles because there isn’t much till you get to Columbiaville. Follow the route as suggested to the portable johns at the Columbiaville trailhead, then head over to the gas station for a Payday candy bar and a cold Coke. The next chance you’ll have at a restroom is another portable at the back of the baseball diamond in Hadley, at mile 48. There’s a party store at the corner but they aren’t cyclist friendly. I don’t buy anything there unless I’m desperate.

The highlight of the ride is going between Pero and Pleasant Lakes from mile 35 to 37. The roads on this route aren’t always the greatest, though they’re much improved over the last few. There are a few rough sections nonetheless, towards the last third of the ride. You’ll know what I’m referring to when you see them. Still, for the most part you’re looking at lightly traveled country roads, so it’s worth a couple of miles of choppy roads to us.
