If you’re not a fan of busy roads, this is not a route for you. It’s got a lot of traffic. If, however, you are stuck in southeastern Michigan and want to find something to climb, well this is a great option. I’m okay with the traffic and there are several roads with decent shoulders, so it’s a favorite of mine… a wonderful 57-mile route. I love the fact it’s nice and climby once you get to Kensington. Before you get to the park, though, there’s the screaming descent just after you tick over mile 22. We hit 45-mph on the way down, but we pedal for all we’re worth to get there. If speed isn’t your thing, sit up and stay to the side of the road, it’s only, ahem, a -9.2% grade.
Also, at mile 29.7 we like to go off-road for about 30′ to hop onto the paved trail… if you’re not sure of your handling skills, go follow the route to Milford Road, then pull a U-Turn onto the trail. Other than that, the route is 57 miles long and we like to stop at the Tim Horton’s in Milford for a light breakfast and a coffee. I’ve included that stop in the routes. Enjoy your ride, this is a good one!
