The Genesee Wanderers Cycling Club rides in Lennon, along with our Affable Hammers group (no membership, it’s not a club, you buy a kit from Mt Borah and wear it, you’re an Affable Hammer, though it does help to be a little bit fast when wearing something that says “Hammers” on it), every Tuesday evening (excepting thunderstorm days) from April through the end of October at 6pm sharp. If you’re slow, fast, or want to be fast, this is where you go. Our A Group completes a 33-mile circuit at (or just below) a 25-mph average pace. The B Group is a little easier (but not much) at an average pace of 22 to 23-mph for 30 miles. The C Group, comprised of a few sub-groups, averages between 17 and 19-mph. And we’ve got a D, E, and even an F Group if you need. Virtually all abilities are represented.

We meet at the Lennon Wesleyan Church parking lot (park at the back of the lot, please) located at 11280 Lennon Road, Lennon, MI 48449 between 5:00 pm and 5:45 pm (we do a seven mile warmup that leaves at 5:10). The main event, A Group, leaves at 6pm on the nose. The B Group heads out 30 seconds (ish) later. The C Group right after that. The D, E & F groups typically leave with the C or before the A Group 6pm start. In other words, it’s a good idea to show up early to get yourself situated. With upwards of 50 cyclists to herd, we don’t wait for those who aren’t ready or show up late. When the word is given, we roll. It’s up to the individual to be on time.

Just spent a little too long Google “street viewing” the area. Looks SO nice. Loving the countryside, the rustic style farm houses, apple orchards and corn fields. Heaven!

It’s really nice, man – and the locals put up with 50 to 70 cyclists rolling around their roads every Tuesday night. It’s really special.
